ANTIDOTE TO LIFE’S IRRITATIONS
Psalm 23:5b
Intro.: The psalmist pictures the Great Shepherd leading His sheep
through the valleys to higher ground in verse 4. Now in verse 5
they have reached the “tableland” – the high mountain ranges for
summer grazing.
- With the summer comes certain irritations the shepherd must
be aware of and deal with in his flock.
I. The Aggravated Life.
“Thou anointest my head with oil …”
- The shepherd’s application with oil pictures the anointing of the Holy Spirit .
A. Annoyances.
- “fly time”
B. Contamination.
- “scab time”
C. Rivalry.
- “season of the rut”
II. The Abundant Life.
“…my cup runneth over.”
A. The Spirit-Controlled Life knows Contentment .
B. The Spirit-Controlled Life knows God’s Grace .
- A life overflowing with God’s Blessings .
