A THIRST SATISFIED

Psalm 23:2b

Intro.: Those who follow the Good Shepherd, Jesus Christ, will not
 “want”, or lack –

  1) “Green pastures” – necessary for Rest .

  2) “Still waters” – necessary for Life .

I. The Sheep Need Water.

   A. Water is essential to the health & well-being of sheep.

Applic.: Each soul has the capacity and need for the water of
life - the life of Christ by the Spirit of God.

   B. If thirsty, the sheep become restless and search for water.

Applic.: Man has a deep inner sense of searching and seeking
for their spiritual thirst to be satisfied.

  C. Often sheep will end up drinking unclean water.

Applic.: Thirsty souls can only be satisfied when they drink
of the water of life from Christ!

II. The Shepherd Knows Where .

  • It is the Shepherd who can best provide the sheep with water.

  A. The shepherd knows the best drinking places.

    - where the water is still, quiet, clean, & pure .

Applic.: Many seek to find satisfaction in the things of the
world rather than follow and trust God.

   B. With much work & effort, the shepherd is the one who
   provides the watering places.

Applic.:  There are times when the Lord leads us into places
of uncertainty , but by faith we must follow and find
   His grace sufficient.

C. The good shepherd is diligent to provide early morning
grazing on dew - drenched vegetation.

Applic.: The Lord’s sheep would do well to rise early each
day and feed on God’s Word .

III. The Sheep Must Follow .

  • By trust the sheep learn their shepherd truly cares and provides the best.

Applic.: Living in obedient faith , we learn Christ truly cares
for us and knows what is best.

Concl.: Will we insist on running our own lives and refuse to follow
 Christ, the Good Shepherd?!
