TRUE RICHES

I Timothy 6:17-19

Intro.:  We live in a society of selfishness and greed.
Now, we are living in a time of economic struggles.

How is this world going to cope with financial hardships?
What is the Christian’s attitude to be about money?

 Consider the following Biblical observations:

I.   The Riches that are in Christ are Eternal, but the Wealth of
the World is Temporal.    vv.17a, 19

  • In Christ, a man’s attitude about money can completely change!      Mark 10:17-30

II. The Riches of this World are Dangerous because they can
Keep a Person from being Right with God.   v.17

  • They often lead people into bitter sorrow.

  • Our dependence must be upon God, not self or material things.

III. The Riches of the Lord Promote Spiritual Health and Offer
  True Satisfaction.   v.17b

  • Suffering in the Lord’s will is better than enjoying the very best that the world has to offer without God’s approval.

IV. Money is Not Inherently Sinful.  Wealth can be Used to
Glorify God and Advance His Cause on the Earth.    v.18

  • However, once a man begins to love money, wealth ceases to be a helpful tool and becomes a cruel master.
